A child's view

Grandpa Allred's 'Treasure Box'

Since my Grandpa Allred passed away in February, Mason has had numerous questions about death. It is interesting whenever he starts to think about it. I can tell that it is definitely a listening and teaching moment for us.

Today at breakfast this was our conversation:

Mason: Mom my spirit is in my body
Me: Yes, your spirit is in your body and helps you to move
Mason: Yeah, I can move my hands and everything (he moves his fingers all around). But when we die we get separated.
Me: Yes, our spirit goes to the Spirit world with Heavenly Father and our bodies are laid in the ground.
Mason: Like Grandpa Allred?
Me: Yes, like Grandpa Allred.
Mason: Grandpa Allred is in the ground like an ant.
Me: Yes. He is under the ground like the ants. Do you remember that he is buried in a casket?
Mason: Yeah. Grandpa is like a treasure and his casket is like a treasure box.

Then the conversation turns to Uncle David's dead fish:

Mason: David's fish died. But we flushed him down the toilet for his funeral.
Me: Oh yeah? Well fish live in the water anyway so that's ok.
