Filing Systems ideas, anyone?

I am so tired of papers all over my house because I do not know where to put them.
Yes I have a filing cabinet, but do any of these papers go in there? NO

Papers of Evans drawings
Papers from church
Papers from preschool and kindergarten
Mail that I dont know what to do with.

Anyone out there have a solution for me.
I am so tired of STUFF all over my house.

(This post is a rant session...can you tell)

Also, I am really bugged again about something going on with my blog. Everytime I try to type an apostrophe, the darn thing takes me to the bottom and takes me to a box that says "quick find". It is driving me crazy. Any ideas of what might be the problem? Maybe one of my settings is off.

For the kids' artwork and/or special papers we have accordion folders divided by year that we keep the best of the best in. Our Katelyn is a prolific artist, so we have to be selective. Jaysen has had to learn that you can't keep everything! Also, the best thing to follow is the "touch it no more than twice" rule. Or three times. You choose. Just make sure that you do what you need to with it ASAP and you'll find less paper to deal with! (This is coming from an organizing geek.)

I think every mom struggles with their kids papers! I found a cute idea to do each year for each child...get a cheap 1-2 inch binder with sheet protectors and put all their papers worth saving in it. My little guys love them. They look at them all of the time and they feel like it is their scrapbook that they are super proud of.
I also don't like things on my fridge, so I put up some sort of board in each kids rooms to display that weeks "papers!"
As for the mail, that is what I use filing cabinets for, or else start getting e-statements so you dont have all the papers!
Hope that helps!

I put dates on the back of all the kids papers, then I use the large
4" binders with sheet protectors. I have a binder for each school year, preschool, kindergarten, etc. I start the front of the book with a class picture, then report cards, then go month to month. I don't keep every paper, but quite a few. Kenny and Hannah love looking at their binders. For the mail, on our desk I have 3 trays, one is my inbox, one is Kens, and the other is for the bills.

Kim, my mom's numbered file is the BEST! Ask her or me about it. You don't have to cateogorize anything, just number it. It's great. Also-throw away most everything! That's my advice:). I have bulletin board in each kid's room for their art projects, and when it gets full and they aren't looking, I "weed out." They never seem to notice that the stuff "underneath" just isn't there anymore. Same with church handouts-with the internet, you usually don't need to keep "paper references" Throw away whatever you possibly can. Kay
